Cybersecurity & digital identity: key issues explored at MTL connect 2025

As cyberattacks multiply at lightning speed and geopolitical tensions disrupt the global digital order, the question of digital sovereignty becomes urgent. Who controls our data? How can we protect our infrastructures? What responsibilities do states, companies, and citizens share in the face of growing digital risks?

These questions will be explored on October 29, 2025, as part of the “Cybersecurity & Digital Identity” theme at MTL connect: Montreal’s Digital Week.

Digital sovereignty and ethical hacking: opening the discussion

The theme will kick off with a highly anticipated talk by Clément Domingo, aka SaxX, ethical hacker, trainer, internationally renowned speaker, and co-founder of Hackers Without Borders.

Recognized for his expertise in cyberattacks, ransomware, and critical system security, SaxX is also known for his civic engagement. With initiatives such as #PermisCyber and numerous media interventions, he advocates for more inclusive, accessible, and responsible cybersecurity.

During his presentation, he will address risks related to geopolitical conflicts, the crucial role of ethical hackers in today’s digital world, and the urgent need for collective reflection on digital sovereignty.

Cross-cutting challenges between ai and cybersecurity

Artificial intelligence is now present in every domain, including cybersecurity. While it represents opportunities, it also raises new risks, both in security and ethics.

This topic will be at the heart of discussions and a unique masterclass led by two figures of African digital innovation from Morocco, the country of honor for this 7th edition of MTL connect:

  • Ali Kettani, Director of the College of Computing at Mohammed VI Polytechnique University (UM6P)

  • Yassine Laghzioui, Director of UM6P Ventures

They will share their experiences, challenges, and vision for cybersecurity in a context of rapid digital transformation.

Cybersecurity and quantum technologies: a new frontier

The arrival of quantum technologies is also reshaping the security landscape. Capable of breaking traditional encryption systems, these innovations force organizations to rethink their strategies.

In collaboration with the Quantum Institute of Sherbrooke, the City of Sherbrooke offers a series of activities:

  • A panel on interactions between cybersecurity and quantum technologies

  • A participatory workshop on municipal cybersecurity tools

  • A masterclass on recent advances in quantum technologies

These are opportunities to explore this technological frontier and anticipate its impacts.

Territorial cooperation: an example from Nantes

Another highlight will be the unveiling of the Cybersecurity Territorial Solidarity Charter by the city of Nantes. This ambitious initiative aims to unite public, private, and citizen stakeholders against cyber threats.

It illustrates how a collective, territorial approach can strengthen digital resilience, a model that can inspire Quebec municipalities.

Moving Forward Together: Quebec Cybersecurity in Action

Finally, don’t miss the strategic meeting led by Cybereco, bringing together key players from the Quebec cybersecurity ecosystem. The goal is to advance best practices, innovation, and collaboration in a spirit of sharing and solidarity.

Join us on October 29 for an unmissable day

Cybersecurity is no longer just a specialist’s concern: it has become a societal, political, and strategic issue. MTL connect 2025 offers a rich, committed, and forward-looking program to better understand these challenges and respond collectively.
