TechnoCompétences: A Key Driver for the ICT Industry

TechnoCompétences: A Key Driver for the ICT Industry

Founded in 1998, TechnoCompétences is Quebec’s sectoral workforce committee (CSMO) for information and communications technology (ICT). Our mission? To support and promote talent development in this ever-evolving sector. By working in concert with companies, public institutions, and private actors, we provide practical solutions to address workforce challenges and guide Quebec businesses through their digital transformation.

A Thriving Sector Driving Quebec’s Economy

The ICT sector is one of the cornerstones of Quebec’s economy. In 2023, its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reached over $25 billion, accounting for around 6.2% of the province’s total GDP. This dynamic sector encompasses more than 10,000 specialized companies, employing over 260,000 professionals, including 20,000 self-employed workers. Despite a decrease in vacant positions from 15,000 to 7,000 between 2022 and 2024, the demand for skilled talent remains critical to meeting the sector’s growth.

The vast majority of ICT companies are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), with 90% of them employing fewer than 20 people. These figures highlight the importance of supporting these businesses in their search for highly skilled and specialized talent.

Tailored Support for Businesses

TechnoCompétences is a vital resource for companies seeking ICT talent. Our mandate, provided by the Commission des partenaires du marché du travail (CPMT), enables us to offer tailored services to meet the unique challenges facing companies in this sector.

Our studies, such as the Sectorial Workforce Diagnosis, provide critical data to adjust talent management strategies, particularly in response to workforce shortages. We also offer specialized cybersecurity training, designed to meet the growing needs of businesses for data protection.

Promoting Diversity and Inclusion

At TechnoCompétences, we firmly believe that diversity is an asset. We strive to promote inclusion within the ICT sector by integrating underrepresented populations, such as women, in a field often dominated by men. Currently, women account for only 24% of the workforce in ICT. That’s why we collaborate with various partners to make this sector more inclusive and equitable.

A Commitment to the Future

Our role goes beyond talent management. We are committed to supporting the digital transformation of Quebec businesses through our Technological and Digital Transformation Expertise Hub. This initiative aims to guide companies in adopting the best practices and technologies, helping them remain competitive in the global market.

Through concerted efforts with our industry partners, we are able to deliver projects such as AI training pathways, developed in collaboration with organizations like CRIM and Université TÉLUQ.

TechnoCompétences: Your Partner for the Future

In summary, TechnoCompétences plays a crucial role in driving Quebec’s economy by supporting the talents and businesses within the ICT sector. To learn more about our services and how we can support your projects, visit our website: technocompetences.qc.ca.
