Francophone AI: Shaping the Future at MTL connecte

The Francophone Forum on Artificial Intelligence is anchoring its 2025 edition in the heart of Montreal.

Montreal, August 11, 2025 — The digital future of 300 million French speakers worldwide will be at the center of discussions this fall in Montreal. For the first time, the Francophone Forum on Artificial Intelligence, a flagship initiative of the International Agency for Training and Research in Artificial Intelligence (AFRIA), will take center stage at MTL connect on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. This strategic convergence strengthens Montreal’s position as an epicenter of Francophone digital innovation, where ethical, inclusive, and sustainable AI is being forged.

FFIA: A Catalyst for a Francophone Digital Revolution

Since its visionary creation in 2020, this unique platform has brought together internationally renowned experts, policymakers, researchers, innovative entrepreneurs, and representatives from strategic institutions, all united by a common ambition: to address the specific challenges of integrating AI into Francophone contexts, with a special focus on Africa, the Caribbean, and diasporas.
The FFIA seeks to create a robust multilateral dialogue space on the complex issues of AI, to highlight the often underrepresented realities and priorities of Francophone countries, and to promote the responsible adoption of AI in public policy and strategic sectors.

A Vision Driven by Human Intelligence

Artificial intelligence must be a vehicle for empowerment and social progress, never a source of division or exclusion,” says Mehdi Benboubakeur, Executive Director of Printemps numérique. “By hosting the Francophone Forum on AI, MTL connecte reaffirms our commitment to an AI that respects our values of diversity, innovation, and solidarity. This is an opportunity to unite the driving forces of the Francophonie to co-create a digital future that brings us together.

2025 Themes: Four Strategic Pillars for the Future

The 2025 edition of the FFIA will address crucial issues structured around four key pillars:

Digital Governance and Sovereignty: Exploring regulatory and ethical frameworks specific to Francophone nations, creating a credible alternative to dominant models while ensuring the protection of citizens’ data and regulation adapted to local contexts.

Linguistic Inclusion and Cultural Diversity: eveloping multilingual AI models that respect the cultural richness of the Francophone world, enabling artificial intelligence to speak French, Creole, Wolof, Lingala, and all the languages of our shared space.

Transformative Sectoral Applications: Providing concrete demonstrations of AI’s impact in vital sectors from telemedicine in rural areas to adaptive education systems, to precision agriculture, with solutions tailored to Francophone realities.

Training and Talent Development: Strategies to strengthen human and technological capacities, ensuring that Francophone countries can independently design, develop, and master AI.
