TechnoCompétences: An Essential Lever for the ICT Industry
Since its creation in 1998, TechnoCompétences has been the Sectoral Workforce Committee (CSMO) for information and communications technology (ICT) in Quebec. Our mission? To support and promote talent development within this constantly evolving sector. Working in collaboration with businesses, public and private institutions, we provide concrete solutions to address workforce challenges and support Quebec companies in their digital transformation.
A Driving Force in Quebec’s Economy
The ICT sector is one of the pillars of Quebec’s economy. In 2023, its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reached over $25 billion, accounting for approximately 6.2% of the province’s total GDP. This dynamic sector includes more than 10,000 specialized businesses, employing over 260,000 professionals, including 20,000 self-employed workers. However, despite the drop in job vacancies from 15,000 to 7,000 between 2022 and 2024, the need for qualified talent remains essential to meet the sector’s growth.
The vast majority of ICT sector businesses are SMEs (90%), some of which have fewer than 20 employees. These figures highlight the importance of supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in their search for skilled and specialized talent.
Personalized Support for Businesses
TechnoCompétences positions itself as an indispensable resource for businesses seeking ICT talent. Our mandate, stemming from the Commission des partenaires du marché du travail (CPMT), enables us to offer tailored services to address the unique challenges faced by sector businesses.
Our studies, such as the Sectoral Workforce Diagnosis, provide essential data to adapt talent management strategies, particularly in the face of labor shortages. We also offer specialized training in cybersecurity, designed to meet the growing needs of businesses in terms of data protection.
Supporting Diversity and Inclusion
At TechnoCompétences, we firmly believe that diversity is an asset. We strive to promote inclusion within the ICT sector by integrating underrepresented groups, such as women, in a field often dominated by men. Currently, women represent only 24% of the workforce in ICT. This is why we collaborate with various partners to make this sector more inclusive and equitable.

Our role goes beyond mere talent management. We are committed to supporting the digital transformation of Quebec businesses through our Expertise Hub for Technological and Digital Transformations. This initiative aims to guide businesses in adopting best practices and technologies, helping them remain competitive in the global market.
Thanks to collaboration with our industry partners, we are able to propose projects such as support in artificial intelligence, developed in partnership with organizations like CRIM and Université TÉLUQ.
