As cyberattacks multiply at breakneck speed and geopolitical tensions upend the global digital order, the question of digital sovereignty has become urgent. Who controls our data? How can we protect our infrastructure? What responsibilities do states, businesses and citizens share in the face of growing digital risks?
These are the questions that will be explored on October 29, 2025, as part of the theme “Cybersecurity & Digital Identity” at MTL connect: Montreal’s Digital Spring.
Digital sovereignty and ethical hacking: opening the discussion
The theme will kick off with a highly anticipated conference by Clément Domingo, alias SaxX, an ethical hacker, trainer, internationally renowned speaker and co-founder of the organization Hackers Without Borders.
Recognized for his expertise in cyberattacks, ransomware and critical system security, SaxX is also distinguished by his civic engagement. Through initiatives like #PermisCyber and numerous media appearances, he advocates for a more inclusive, accessible and responsible cybersecurity.
During his presentation, he will address the risks linked to geopolitical conflicts, the crucial role of ethical hackers in today’s digital world and the urgency of a collective reflection on digital sovereignty.
Cross-cutting challenges between AI and cybersecurity
Artificial intelligence is now present in all fields, including cybersecurity. While it represents an opportunity, it also raises new risks, both in terms of security and ethics.
This issue will be at the heart of discussions and an exclusive masterclass led by two figures of African digital innovation, from Morocco, the guest country of this 7th edition of MTL connect:
- Ali Kettani, Director of the College of Computing at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P)
- Yassine Laghzioui, Director of UM6P Ventures
They will share their experiences, challenges and vision of cybersecurity in a context of rapid digital transformation.
Cybersecurity and quantum technologies: a new frontier
The arrival of quantum technologies is also upending the security landscape. Capable of breaking traditional encryption systems, these innovations force organizations to fundamentally rethink their strategies.
In collaboration with the Sherbrooke Quantum Institute, the City of Sherbrooke is offering a series of activities:
- a panel on the interactions between cybersecurity and quantum technologies;
- a participatory workshop on municipal cybersecurity tools;
- a masterclass on recent advances in quantum technologies.
So many opportunities to explore this technological frontier and anticipate its impacts.
Territorial cooperation: an example from Nantes
Another highlight: the unveiling of the Territorial Cybersecurity Solidarity Charter by the city of Nantes. This ambitious initiative aims to unite local public, private and citizen actors in the face of cyber threats.
It illustrates how a collective and territorial approach can strengthen digital resilience. An inspiring model for Quebec municipalities.
Moving forward together: Quebec cybersecurity in action
Finally, don’t miss the strategic meeting led by Cybereco, which will bring together key players in Quebec’s cybersecurity ecosystem. The goal: advance best practices, innovation and collaboration with a focus on sharing and solidarity.
