Montreal, December 14, 2023 – As part of its efforts to reduce the digital divide and better meet the needs of Indigenous youth and their communities, Printemps numérique (PN) launched its first cohort of Indigenous Youth Ambassadors for a Desirable Digital Future. Thus, 11 young people aged 18 to 29 took part in MTL connect, from October 10 to 13, 2023.
A personalized program was offered to a cohort of 11 young Indigenous professionals and leaders, during which they were able to:
- Visit various companies
- Participate in digital creation and programming workshops
- Exchange with artificial intelligence experts
- Explore training and careers in digital creativity

This program gave the cohort of Indigenous Youth Ambassadors the opportunity to reflect on their needs and express their wishes regarding a desirable digital future in their communities. The activities and exchanges were documented to foster the emergence of solutions and initiatives for the sustainable development of Indigenous communities.
In co-creation with these young people, the ideas and reflections will be compiled into a position paper to highlight their vision of a desirable digital future for communities, in a creative and committed way. The position paper will be the subject of a launch activity during Youth Digital Month in February 2024.

With this event, we wanted to present the different careers and opportunities offered by the field, particularly highlighting creativity and fun, but also the importance of all voices being involved. « On a personal level, my meeting with the young people was very enriching. We had a great discussion about the opportunities and uses of digital technology within our various Indigenous communities, as well as the impact of artificial intelligence in our communities. In particular, we emphasized the importance of mastering our own data from a decolonized and decentralized perspective. The immersive workshop in AI-assisted digital creation was undoubtedly a moment we particularly enjoyed. »
