Montreal, September 18, 2023 – MTL connect, the annual international event organized by the NPO Printemps numérique, proudly announces the official program for its 5th anniversary edition. Join us from October 10 to 13, 2023 at the NAD School in Montreal and online.
Under the theme of COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE, MTL connect will bring together a community of entrepreneurs, researchers, decision-makers, industry players, and artists to explore the challenges and opportunities of the digital revolution. With a cross-cutting vision encompassing economic, social, cultural, and environmental aspects, the event serves as a platform to foster understanding and cross-sector collaboration.
The diverse program for this edition promises captivating moments for all participants. Here’s a preview of some of the highlights:
Belgium in the Spotlight
Following Senegal in 2022, this year Belgium takes center stage at MTL connect.
The history between MTL connect and Belgium is rich in complicity and exchanges. This year, a significant delegation, involving all three regions of the country, will be present at the event. They will be accompanied by hub.brussels, the Walloon Agency for Export and Foreign Investment (AWEX), Wallonie-Bruxelles International (WBI), and Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT).
On this occasion, Printemps numérique is also honored to welcome the Minister-President of the Brussels-Capital Region, Mr. Rudi Vervoort.
The Belgian perspective will be particularly highlighted through conferences, workshops, Focus Territories, as well as a long-awaited Belgian Café on October 11 at 5:30 PM.
Opening Conference on Collective Intelligence with Pierre Lévy –
October 10
Pierre Lévy, researcher and professor at the Université de Montréal, will explore the new possibilities for collective intelligence offered by emerging technologies such as generative artificial intelligence.
Discussion on Generative AI with Yoshua Bengio and Marc-Antoine Dilhac –
October 10
A discussion between these experts, moderated by Hélène Jouan, correspondent for the newspaper Le Monde, will offer a nuanced and enlightened exploration of the positive aspects and challenges inherent in high-intelligence AI systems. They will help shape a deeper understanding of the implications of these technological advancements on our society and our destiny as a species.
Conference on Education in a World Populated by AI with Delphine Le Serre –

An economic, legal, societal, and educational reflection for the fulfillment of humans in the hyper-connected society of the future.
Workshop on Our Relationship with AI by Pierre-Majorique Léger and Sylvain Sénécal –
October 11
Between widely adopted AIs like Siri and Google Maps, which we can no longer do without, and more controversial AIs like autonomous cars and ChatGPT, why are humans so ambivalent about the role of AI in our society? Pierre-Majorique Léger and Sylvain Sénécal, professors at HEC Montréal, co-directors of the Tech3Lab, and researchers in the IVADO ecosystem, lead a strategic research program on the responsible development, acceptance, and regulation of AI in various contexts such as education, the future of work, transportation, and service providers.
Workshop on Intangible Heritage and Web3 by Géraldine Bueken –

To help preserve textile craftsmanship and emblematic musical folklores of Indigenous cultures recognized as Intangible Heritage by UNESCO, this workshop will explore the potential of 3D AVATARS as mediation tools.
Conference on Cybersecurity Challenges and Opportunities with Phedra Clouner –

What types of attacks are organizations and citizens around the world facing? Who are the actors behind them, and what are their motivations? How does Belgium plan to become one of the least cyber-vulnerable European countries by 2025?
Conference on Connected and Smart Territories with Eric Cassar –
October 12
A reflection on the cities of tomorrow and the new possibilities opened up by digital technology to make them more ecological, inclusive, and surprising.
Workshop on Health Innovation Across Territories with Sandra Schnock –
October 12
Presentation of a Belgian-Quebec platform aimed at transforming Francophone territories into connected spaces for research and development, where collaboration and knowledge sharing are at the heart of changing healthcare systems.
Two Captivating Itineraries in Montreal and Mont-Tremblant –

The event will culminate with techno-cultural visits in Montreal (on the program: McCord Museum, OASIS immersion, NFB, and Phi Centre) and techno-industrial visits in Mont-Tremblant, whose program you can view here.
A Vibrant Artistic Program
Every year, MTL connect showcases digital arts from Quebec and beyond. For this 5th edition, come discover two installations featuring the works of Yan Breuleux and Louis-Philippe Rondeau.
Yan, a professor at the School of Digital Arts, Animation, and Design (NAD), is a researcher in visual music for immersive devices. For nearly a decade, he has collaborated with musicians on multi-screen, panoramic, architectural projection, and full-dome creations.
Louis-Philippe, a professor and researcher, specializes in developing devices that explore self-representation and performance in playful and unconventional ways. His research-creation favors design simplicity and intuitive user experience, avoiding the complexity of computer code in favor of physical interfaces.
