MTL connect 2024: France in the spotlight in Montreal

Montreal, April 9, 2024  —  The Printemps numérique (PN) is proud to announce that France will be the guest of honour at the 6th edition of MTL connect: Montreal’s Digital Week, which will take place from October 15 to 18, 2024. This decision is driven by the strong relationships built over the years with various French digital institutions and stakeholders. This edition will also mark the launch of a new partnership with the Centre Jacques Cartier.

« We are delighted to see France honoured at the 6th edition of MTL connect, which once again highlights the rich collaborations between France and Quebec. By continuing our partnership with Printemps numérique, we aim to promote French creativity and expertise while strengthening the valuable cultural ties between the two regions. This collaboration with Printemps numérique reflects our shared commitment to a responsible and Francophone digital sector, in response to the challenges of our time, such as the rise of AI and the imperatives of climate change. Together, we will work towards the digital sovereignty of Francophone cultural stakeholders, aware of the need to preserve and promote the diversity of French-language cultural content in both France and Quebec. We jointly celebrate the richness of digital creativity and encourage international collaboration within this evolving ecosystem. » – Éric LAMOUREUX, Consul General of France in Quebec.

Lasting relationships

Among the close ties with France, Printemps numérique highlights the special relationship with the Nantes ecosystem. This relationship has endured for several years and has led to the signing of multiple agreements, the completion of numerous projects, the creation of a manifesto on desirable digital practices, and the promotion of a joint declaration for ethical AI.

« Since 2018, the partnership between the Cité des congrès de Nantes and Printemps numérique de Montréal has grown stronger. By developing Nantes Digital Week and MTL connect in a spirit of mutual exchange, our two cities affirm their shared values: a humanistic, ethical, social, and ecological digital sector. They also demonstrate their willingness to learn, discover other practices, and collectively reflect on the major digital challenges. We are collectively proud to enable actors from Nantes and Montreal—whether young or experienced, businesses, associations, or students—to inspire each other through this partnership. » – Francky TRICHET, Vice-President of Nantes Métropole, Innovation & Digital & International Relations.

A promising new partnership

As part of this edition, Printemps numérique is excited to announce its collaboration with the Centre Jacques Cartier, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary. This will be a unique opportunity to connect the ecosystems of both regions and highlight the already strong ties between the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region and Quebec.

« Over the past 40 years, the Centre Jacques Cartier has built bridges between the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and Quebec, with a constant focus on connecting worlds to generate sustainable partnerships. This year, we are therefore enthusiastic about working with Printemps numérique to develop ties between our ecosystems, in a spirit of mutual inspiration and collaboration among digital stakeholders from both regions. We are pleased this year, for the first time, to foster synergies between MTL connect and our annual event, the Entretiens Jacques Cartier 2024, which will take place in Quebec from October 16 to 18. This aims to encourage cross-perspectives, economic, cultural, and institutional partnerships, and contribute to advancing digital issues within the Francophone space. » – Amandine BRESSELLE, General Director, Centre Jacques Cartier.

Pooling expertise

MTL connect will continue to serve as a platform for transatlantic exchanges, fostering productive discussions between representatives and elected officials from Quebec and France, such as those that have taken place with Le Havre, Chambéry, Rennes, and the Grand-Est Region in previous editions. This will be an opportunity to encourage stimulating exchanges, like those held between the directors of the AI expertise centres in Paris and Montreal on the future of artificial intelligence.

Shared challenges

The 2024 edition will also be an opportunity to continue the partnership with Le Monde newspaper and to highlight important issues within the Francophonie, such as the discoverability of Francophone cultural content.

Printemps numérique will thus continue its exchanges and collaborations with essential partners for the success of MTL connect, partners that contribute to the growth of Franco-Quebec cooperation: the Consulate General of France in Quebec; the Consulate General of France in Montreal; Business France; the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Canada; the Franco-Quebec Youth Office (OFQJ); Nantes Métropole; Nantes Saint-Nazaire Développement; the Cité des Congrès de Nantes; the French Ministry of Culture; the Government of Quebec, and other organizations that care deeply about Quebec and France.

Printemps numérique invites you to join these organizations and companies from October 15 to 18, 2024, for an unforgettable cultural and technological experience, celebrating France’s exceptional contributions and the spirit of innovation that defines MTL connect.
