Biographie
After completing his bachelor’s degree in literary studies at the Université du Québec à Montréal, Réjean Beaucage simultaneously turned to music—as a self-taught drummer and producer—and to radio, primarily at CIBL-FM, where he worked as a researcher, on-air producer, director, and host from 1985 to 2002.
Also drawn to print journalism, he regularly contributed to the cultural magazine Voir (May 2001 to October 2019), and his work has appeared in La Scena Musicale, Circuit – musiques contemporaines, and Improjazz (France), among other specialized journals, magazines, and websites.
A finalist for the Conseil québécois de la musique’s OPUS Awards (Book of the Year [twice] and Article of the Year), he won the “Media Production of the Year 1996–1997” category for the radio series AnémixinémA/Zone sonore.
He is the author of a history of La Société de musique contemporaine du Québec (Septentrion, 2011) and an essay on Musique actuelle (Varia, 2019).
Since 2010, he has served as the general director of the concert society Akousma, which produces the annual immersive digital music festival of the same name.
