Our 2025-2028 sectoral diagnosis reveals a profound transformation in Quebec’s information and communications technology (ICT) sector. While the sector’s GDP is growing, the number of ICT professionals has fallen by 13% since 2022, marking a structural turning point. The sector, long a driver of transformation in other industries, is now experiencing its own transformation. Artificial intelligence, used by 58% of surveyed organizations, is both the lever and the catalyst.
This transformation is not just technological: it is human. Talent attraction issues are giving way to those of performance management, skills hybridization and the sustainable integration of technologies into our practices. In this context, digital sobriety is not a brake on innovation, but an ethical and strategic framework to evolve it.
Digital sobriety is not about slowing progress: it is about guiding it with clarity. This means questioning the relevance of the solutions developed, the sustainability of the deployed infrastructure, but also the cognitive and social burden we impose on teams. These are cross-cutting issues that directly align with the recommendations of our sectoral diagnosis, particularly in terms of continuous training, strategic planning and sustainable skills development.
Companies in the sector must now integrate environmental and ethical considerations into their HR strategy, governance and products. The transition to more sober digital practices involves concrete choices: rationalizing infrastructure, eco-designing software, better data management, or reducing superfluous uses.
