Quantum and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in partnership with the City of Sherbrooke

As part of World Science Day for Peace and Development, this article highlights how AI and quantum sciences, constantly evolving, are serving society.
Artificial intelligence (AI) and science, particularly quantum science, today represent important avenues for addressing contemporary challenges. During the MTL connect 2024 event, a panel was held in partnership with the City of Sherbrooke, exploring the links between quantum science and AI as well as Sherbrooke’s positioning in this field on the international stage.
The development of AI and quantum technologies offers interesting prospects for solving global issues. AI, for example, analyzes large volumes of data to support decision-making in various sectors: health, finance, and even environmental protection. At the same time, quantum science provides innovative computing capabilities that enable AI to push its limits, particularly in complex analysis and modeling.
During this meeting, participants explored the potential of integrating AI and quantum sciences to strengthen the role of cities like Sherbrooke in terms of innovation. Sherbrooke positions itself as a research and innovation hub and seeks to leverage these technologies to attract talent and investment. This approach is seen as essential to fostering economic growth and enhancing the region’s profile on the international stage.
The discussions also highlighted the ethical and technical challenges that accompany the adoption of these new technologies. A consensus emerged around the importance of collaboration between researchers, businesses, and public institutions to ensure responsible and effective use of these tools in the service of society. The event demonstrated Sherbrooke’s commitment to strengthening its capabilities in quantum science and AI, and highlighted the collaborations that could help transform these innovations into tangible benefits for society.
