On September 15th, during Nantes Digital Week 2022, the first launch of an anticipation manifesto for a more responsible and desirable digital future took place. This event was attended by Johanna Rolland, Mayor of Nantes, Guillaume Aniorté, President of the Board of Directors of Printemps numérique, and Francky Trichet, Vice President of Nantes Métropole.
This manifesto is the result of a collaboration between Printemps numérique and Nantes Digital Week, involving a dozen young people from Nantes and Montreal. In parallel, two university professors, Mr. Raphaël Suire from the University of Nantes and Thierry Gateau, Professor at UQAM, along with a facilitator, were appointed to supervise this working group. This consultation process, which spanned an entire year, led to the creation of a manifesto that was presented on September 15th at Nantes Digital Week and will be presented on October 20th at MTL connect.
Since 2018, Printemps numérique and Nantes Digital Week, coordinated by the City of Nantes and the Cité des congrès de Nantes, have initiated a collaboration that has strengthened in 2019, 2020, and 2021 during our joint events: Nantes Digital Week and MTL connect. Both events share a common vision: that of a digital transformation that is enriching and human-centred.
The collaboration between the two organizations during the 2021-2023 period has enabled the presentation of projects that give a prominent place to:
- gender equality: the role of women in the digital sector and the development of new technologies;
- youth: raising awareness and democratizing code and digital technologies among young people who are distant from the digital sector.
This project is supported by the Québec Ministry of International Relations and La Francophonie and the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, as part of the Franco-Québec Fund for Decentralized Cooperation (FFQCD).
SPEECH BY GUILLAUME ANIORTÉ, PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF PRINTEMPS NUMÉRIQUE, DURING THE MANIFESTO LAUNCH
Dear friends,
It is with great pleasure that I find myself once again with you, in this magnificent city of Nantes, to share another significant moment in the unique relationship that has united Nantes and Montreal for many years.
Whether through the collaborations between Île de Nantes and the Quartier des spectacles (and here I greet my friend Fabrice and all the teams at Samoa), the cooperation agreements that have marked our exchanges, or today, the launch of the Manifesto, all these initiatives bear witness to a shared and common vision that collectively commits us to a sustainable and accessible digital future for all.
This idea is particularly close to our hearts at Printemps numérique. It is even at the core of the strategic plan we launched this year, which places the citizen at the heart of what we call digital intelligence.
This digital intelligence, which we define as our collective ability to express, use, and enhance knowledge across all communities and industries, must be part of the common good.
It must be a shared and unifying wealth. It must not only facilitate exchanges between businesses but also, and above all, ensure that no population—physically, culturally, or economically distant from the digital world—is excluded.
And this is what our young people are expressing today by raising this reflection on sustainable and, above all, desirable digital technology, as part of this fruitful collaboration between Printemps numérique and Nantes Digital Week.
By delivering, in turn, a vibrant and responsible manifesto, they are not afraid to ask the real questions, to challenge what often seems to us to be obvious, and to cast a realistic and promising gaze towards the future.
In a moment, you will discover the fruit of this remarkable work carried out by our young professionals from Montreal and students from Nantes over two years, with the support of experienced professors. And through this work, the result of a reflection that propels us forward to present this desirable digital future, bearer of a sustainable tomorrow.
As President of Printemps numérique, I am particularly proud to be with you today. Proud that our organization, in close collaboration with Nantes Digital Week, has been able to contribute to creating this bond between talented and promising young people.
In closing, I would like to thank the Ministry of International Relations and La Francophonie, which, through the Franco-Québec Fund for Decentralized Cooperation, made it possible to implement this beautiful initiative supported by Montreal and the Nantes authorities.
