SENEGAL: COUNTRY IN THE SPOTLIGHT AT MTL CONNECT

Montreal, August 23, 2022 – Senegal will be the first country to be honored during MTL connect: Montreal Digital Week, which will take place from October 15 to 23, 2022. This choice reflects, in all its richness, the central theme of this upcoming edition: (ECO)Systems of Hope. Indeed, solutions enabling the development of a digital sector mindful of ethical, social, and ecological issues will be presented.

WHY SENEGAL?

• Demonstrate the country’s dynamism and its ambition to make digital transformation one of the catalysts for more inclusive growth through the guidelines of the Senegal Emerging Plan by 2035
• Present how Senegal positions itself on the African continent in terms of innovation
• Celebrate the 60th anniversary of Senegalese-Canadian cooperation relations and the role Senegal plays as President of the African Union
• Present collaboration opportunities between Senegal and Quebec

During MTL connect and in collaboration with the Embassy of Senegal in Ottawa, Printemps numérique will welcome a high-level Senegalese delegation to Montreal.

Several ministries have been invited to ensure the participation of the various institutional representations from the public and private sectors as well as Senegalese economic actors at the event:

• the Ministry of Economy, Planning and International Cooperation;
• the Ministry of Digital Economy and Telecommunications;
• the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development;
• the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation;
• the management of the Senegal Numérique Anonymous Company;
• the management of the Telecommunications and Posts Regulatory Authority.

INTERNATIONAL PRESENCE – TERRITORY FOCUS

The 2022 edition will also be an opportunity to connect with other local and international delegations that will take part in MTL connect, both online and in person.

• Brazil in collaboration with the City of Sao Paulo;
• Burkina Faso in collaboration with the School of Entrepreneurs of Africa;
• Chile in collaboration with Prochile – the General Directorate for Export Promotion of the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs;

• Martinique in partnership with Martinique Tech and Dom Can Bridge Consulting;
• Nantes (France) in partnership with Nantes Digital Week, Nantes Métropole, Nantes St-Nazaire Développement;
• Porto Novo (Benin) in collaboration with the City of Porto Novo and the City of Montreal;
• Rennes Métropole;
• Togo, in collaboration with Big Success Fortune Inc. companies;
• Tunisia in partnership with the RTCA (Tuniso-Canadian Business Network);
• Wallonia (Belgium) in partnership with Awex (The Walloon Agency for Export and Foreign Investment) | Digital Wallonia.

At the local level, they come from:

• The greater Montreal region;
• Laval in collaboration with Laval Innov;
• Montérégie in partnership with Montérégie Économique;
• various Francophone and Acadian communities from the 4 Atlantic provinces (New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island) in partnership with RDÉE Canada.

To highlight their presence, “Territory Focus” sessions will be organized online and in person throughout the week.

The “Territory Focus” sessions are one-hour meetings to present the digital ecosystem of certain territories and showcase ongoing actors and projects. These meetings aim to facilitate exchanges and the development of new collaborations.

A Senegal Focus will take place on Tuesday, October 18, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Les 7 Doigts (2111 Boul. Saint-Laurent, Montreal, QC).
