Montreal, August 29, 2023 – In harmony with the 5th anniversary edition of MTL connect, from October 10 to 13, 2023, IVADO is partnering with the event to explore artificial intelligence through the lens of COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE. While we prepare to unveil the full program, we invite you to dive into the many activities offered by IVADO.
Artificial intelligence has always been at the heart of MTL connect’s concerns since its inception. As a consortium dedicated to research, training, and knowledge dissemination in AI, IVADO is an obvious choice to address this topic in an informed manner.
1. INTERVIEW ON GENERATIVE AI WITH YOSHUA BENGIO & MARC-ANTOINE DILHAC
Yoshua Bengio and Marc-Antoine Dilhac will tackle a crucial topic: the benefits and potential risks that AI systems with human-level intelligence may pose for society and humanity.
Yoshua Bengio, recognized as one of the world’s leading figures in artificial intelligence, is IVADO’s Scientific Director and also the founder and Scientific Director of Mila.
Marc-Antoine Dilhac is a professor of ethics and political philosophy at the Université de Montréal and an associate member of Mila. He is the instigator of The Montreal Declaration for a Responsible Development of Artificial Intelligence.
The rapid evolution of artificial intelligence is sparking growing interest and raising complex questions about its impact on society and humanity. During their interview, they will explore in a nuanced and informed manner the positive aspects and challenges inherent to high-intelligence AI systems. In doing so, they will help shape a deeper understanding of the implications of these technological advancements for our society and our destiny as a species.

2. MEETING OF EXCELLENCE SECTORS
The Meeting of Excellence Sectors is a showcase of Quebec’s ecosystems of excellence, further consolidating the region’s position as a technological leader.
In this context, IVADO will present a session focused on the importance of women in the field of technology. This will be an opportunity to highlight certain projects led by women in AI and to emphasize the importance of gender diversity in technology.

3. WORKSHOP PRESENTED BY IVADO: A little, a lot, passionately: Our love/hate relationship with AI
From widely adopted AIs like Siri and Google Maps, which we can’t do without, to more controversial ones like autonomous cars and ChatGPT, why are humans so ambivalent about the role of AI in our society? Come discover and discuss the role of AI with Pierre-Majorique Léger and Sylvain Senécal, professors at HEC Montréal, co-directors of the Tech3Lab and researchers in the IVADO ecosystem. They lead a strategic research program on the responsible development, acceptance, and regulation of AI in various contexts such as education, the future of work, transportation, and service providers.
